3-sigma signal of new physics in b to s transitions?

Wow.

The Unitarity Triangle Fit Collaboration Just released a report on the arXiv that combined CDF/D0 data yeilds a 3\sigma deviation from the SM determination of B_s mixing phase.

awesome! I wonder how serious this is. Exciting if true, but B physics is hard!

  2. N.B. neither CDF nor D0 see anything of significance independently, and this is stated in the paper. You could argue that this is then a real effect, and just lacks statistics, or that UTfit isn’t properly computing their correlated errors. We’ll have to wait and see what Belle/BaBar or CKMfitter say about this. A friend of mine who is at Moriond EW/GUT right now said he asked a “competitor” about it. Their response was “This is irrelevant… they do crazy things…” Is this cattiness, or past experience? I love a good fight. Stay tuned!
